We had a busy and exciting week in first grade! Here's a little glimpse of what we've been up to...
On Tuesday the Barrington Fire Department visited to teach us about fire safety. We discussed what to do in case of a fire, how to avoid dangerous situations, and the importance of having a plan and a meeting place with your family to make sure everyone gets out of the house safely.
On Wednesday we hiked Blue Job in Strafford. It was a beautiful day and the students really enjoyed being out in nature. Thank you to all of our chaperones who helped make this trip possible!
One of the elements of being a good reader is being able to read with a partner. Students have been practicing sitting "elbow-elbow, knee-knee" (side by side) while holding the book in the middle and taking turns. This would be great to practice with your child as you do your nightly reading and fill out your reading logs!
Here are some fantastic models showing us how to partner read:
Thank you to all parents and guardians who have signed up for a Fall conference time slot. I will be making phone calls to those of you who still need to sign up, and reminder emails will go out closer to the date.
We're off to a great start...can you believe it's already mid-October?
